It's worth a painful clonk on the shnoz with a bat if you stole it from a friendly leprechaun!

Traditional mass for a gold bar is 400 troy ounces (12.4Kg) at 99.5% purity. As I type this, gold is trading at $1590 US dollars per troy ounce (using figures from NYSE) 99.5% x 400 ozt x $1590/ozt So, $632,820 USD for a 12.4Kg bar of 99.5% purity. ---EDIT--- The ones I mention above are the bigger ones like you see in the movies. That's what a lot of people associate with gold "bricks." This is what governments and banks trade with. It's unlikely a regular person would ever see a real one of these. As Binky noted, there are also 1Kg bars, which are about the size of a cell phone. This is what you'd see if a regular person bought a gold bar at a precious metals dealer. It's more common to see 99.995% purity on these smaller bars. I see Binky's already done the math on those.
